Today we ask what is true? Was is fake? So far our elected officials are following the Kremlin’s playbook which desires us (and the West in general) to embrace “fake news” over legitimate journalism. In this way we turn on one another causing riffs in the very fabric of our society. We succumb to relativity rather than objectivity. We lose sight of what is truth. A weak democracy is ripe for the picking. This is nothing new, it’s just raised to a sophisticated level. Sites like Breitbart and the Daily Caller and Fox and Friends are echo chambers for bogus stories deftly planted by the Russians. These stories repeated over and over enough take on the appearance of being true. I quick check of their “facts” and sources confirms that they are suspect. But it takes work. And when all is said, and researched and done, we can recognize the truth because it is the last thing standing.
32 you will come to know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
33 They answered, ‘We are descended from Abraham and we have never been the slaves of anyone; what do you mean, “You will be set free?” ‘
34 Jesus replied: In all truth I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave.(John 8:32-33)
So we are faced with some alternatives either accept what is present on the internet as “real news” or we can cross check it. To do the first is slavery. To do the latter causes us to be proactive.
…and so it goes
