Monday of Holy Week-“Santorum Makes Sh*t Up..again”

Pants?

Recently, Rick Santorum made the “huh-what?” statement that in almost all of the U.C. schools in California, a student cannot register for an American History course. (Pause tape! now “Google any University of California campus from Davis to San Diego…now look at courses…see all them American history classes? Thought so). This isn’t the first time Santorum has lied to an audience. Remember what he said the Dutch did with old people? You know, euthanasia? He had told an audience that euthanasia was rampant in the Netherlands so much so that elderly people have to wear wrist bands saying “Do Not Euthanize” on their wrists. That 10% of all deaths in the Netherlands were the result of mercy killing. A lie. The UC accusations? Another lie. With politicians, we expect them to lie, usually about their promises, but lying about facts? Facts that can be simply “Googled” and cross referenced? Not usually. Either Santorum doesn’t know how to use the inter-webs or he is just a lazy quasi-intellectual. Since he is sticking by his comment on higher education being for “snobs.” I think the latter case may be true. His comments are outright lies and most importantly, sad. Today’s reading comes from the book of Isaiah and addresses ignorance directly:

“I formed you, and set you
as a covenant of the people,
a light for the nations,
To open the eyes of the blind,
to bring out prisoners from confinement,
and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness.”(Isaiah 42)

None of these Republican candidates is leading anyone into the light. Both Romney and Santorum (I’ve given up on Gingrich and Paul) are leading their audiences into the darkness of ignorance. But the winner of the ignorance award and lazy intellectualism today is…drum roll…Rick Santorum. It was great to know you Rick, see ya.

and so it goes…

A little song, a little dance, a little coffee down your pants... 40 years in the high school classroom and now on my own. A chance to think about stuff and how it affects everyone, not just me. Now residing in Oregon volunteering for a refugee organization.
