What a great feast we have in the middle of purple Lent. The story today is from the physician, Luke who tells us about a very private moment between an angel and a young Jewish girl named Mary. It was a call who’s end wasn’t completely clear. It was a call never the less clear. It’s an astounding story and one that really takes faith. The promise of a “good” was implied.
That said, what’s happening to those who think they are “called” to lead this nation. They seemed to be called to undo things that have been settled for sometime now, women’s health access. I don’t get it, do you? Doesn’t make sense to me either. Even a moderate like Mitt Romney seems to be getting on the right leaning band-wagon wanting to de-fund Planned Parenthood and wipe out Title X (10). Is this still an issue? Really? Is it a good issue to run on? Is it a “calling” from someplace else? I don’t know either. Every Senate Republican (expect for Snowe) + three democrats voted for the Blunt amendment. (the amendment allowed any employer to refuse to cover any kind of health care service by citing “moral reasons.) I don’t get it. Is this the issue for their the campaign? If so, it is a losing one. Unlike other mysterious calls, this one is predicable and it’s ending quite apparent.
The quote I snipped from Luke comes at the very beginning of the story:
“The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David,
and the virgin’s name was Mary.”(Luke 1)
If you are a Republican stand up and say something. Don’t let these issues muddy the freedom thing you guys are always going on about. No angel has told them this is the way to go and “trust me” because it will all work out fine. It won’t. I am old enough to remember the arguments made over 50 years ago concerning women’s access to health care. Instead, how about them jobs you promised? Where are they?
and so it goes…
