So…Rick Santorum throws up at absolute separation of Church and State and thinks Obama is a snob when he wants young people to go to college. Is his message coming through? It is for me. It borders on anti-American. Of course, if I was on Fox News I would breathlessly announce it was “treasonous” and so forth and so on… Fact Check: Unemployment among college grads is 4% and unemployment is 9% among high school drop-outs and/or high school grads who choose not to go to college. I don’t know why he is saying these things. Do you? As Rick’s voice gets louder, the once good image of the Republican Party fades even more. On yeah, the other thing, separation of organized religion influencing government is in the first amendment. Not number 3 but number 1. If Santorum had gone to his civics class in Butler County, he may have read the amendment…maybe not.
Today’s readings come from Matthew and follow the first reading which repeats the ten commandments. This reading is referring to judgement day and how we are judged on how we helped one another. There’s a whole subtext about social justice that will be addressed as the days of Lent move on.
“He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the king will say to those on his right,
‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father.
Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.’ “(Matt 25)
There are a bunch of sheep and goats out there. Which one are you? Move forward, helping those who need it if you can along your way.
and so it goes…
