Today is Friday December 9, 2011- One of the readings today is from the first Psalm in the Psalter. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;” (Ps.1:1). Sp far, the readings this week have been great and I’ve only scratched the surface with them.
Today’s quote from the Book of Psalms is asking us to be honest and truthful and not to hang out with naysayers and scoffers. Mmmm….where have I heard that before. The Party of “No” comes immediately to mind. No and no and really, no. No to the poor (because they are poor). No to the uninsured (because they may be poor). No to the gays (the equality I talked about yesterday) and no to the unemployed (because they soon will be poor). Sounds like The Republican Party is actually taking counsel from the wicked (Lobbyists) and is sitting with the scoffers, Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity (although I honestly believe he doesn’t think…at all). Was this group of people the psalmist was talking about?
So, during this season, stand up, go to the window open it and yell “WTF???” and make your voice be heard all the way to Washington as you have throughout Ohio. I am loath to say to ‘work within the system’ to make change because I think the system is corrupt and is the problem. Right now however outside of violence, we have no other alternative.
and so it goes…
