Today is Monday 28th of November 2011. The reading today is from Isaiah “He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” (Isaiah 2:4).
Interesting and provocative quote that has made its way onto one of the walls of the United Nations complex in New York. It’s still a great and noble goal of civilized peoples. I guess it’s the last part (civilized) that needs the hard work. Power comes from war, and war brings economic dominance by the masters-of-war, those that can make a profit (usually obscene) from the conflict. Such as it always has been back into distant history. Does it have to be so? Probably not. Will there be a need to repeat this quote from Isaiah again and again? Probably and probably daily.
But it doesn’t have to be so.
and so it goes…
