The Sheriff of Pima County, Arizona which includes Tucson verbalized what many people in this country have thought for some time now. To quote him as completely as possible:

“I think the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business and what (we) see on TV and how our youngsters are being raised, that this has not become the nice United States of America that most of us grew up in. And I think it’s time that we do the soul-searching,” Sheriff Clarence Dupnik

With this simple statement of fact a barrage of defense came from, where? Right wing (hate wing) radio and TV as if it was a direct attack on them? I didn’t see any mention of anything particular ideology in that statement. Perhaps the right wing machine knows darn well down deep that they must take the brunt of the Sheriff’s criticism. A dressing-down always invokes defense and mis-direction so as to lay the guilt equally on the other side. This false equivalency does not pass the smell test. It’s tough to cop to any thing that shows guilt, to say, “You know, you’re right. We should all take it down a skoch.”

and so it goes…
