Deja vu is the experience of feeling sure that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously (an individual feels as though an event has already happened or has happened in the recent past). I don’t know what I mean by the title of this Friday piece but it just seems like a longish week. At a lumber company in Virginia, the tie-less (we are just like you) Republicans unveiled a “plan” for moving “forward.” Exciting as this may have sounded from the get-go, the “Pledge” is anything but new. In fact it is old just by definition. This is not only the party of “no” it is also the party of “no new ideas.” As a matter of fact John Boehner (when 2 vowels go walking…) declared “We are not going to be any different than what we’ve been.” Finally, a bit of honesty. Like the “Pledge” and the various Contracts on or with or from America that we have seen in the last months, nothing will change if we give the Republicans another shot…nothing. Nice to see that parts of the health care reform (Obamacare) are contained in the Pledge. I only wish these hypocrites who voted against the health care bill acknowledge that they are popular. However privatizing Social Security, Medicare and even the V.A. are really not good for America. Speaking of health care insurers, they should all be not-for-profit. That’s a pledge I could live with.
and so it goes See you Monday
