It’s not a big deal except on the cable news channels that while in high school Christine O’Donnell (Rep candidate for senate (D)) dabbled in the black arts. On Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher unearthed an interview from his 90’s show “Politically Incorrect.” She said in that interview:
“I hung around people who were doing these things. I’m not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do,” O’Donnell said.
“One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn’t know it. I mean, there’s little blood there and stuff like that,” she recalled. “We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar.”
Mike Pence the straw-poll presidential candidate of the “Values” Voters confab responded by saying:
“Oh, gosh. Look, you know, it’s really something when Bill Maher becomes the vanguard of religion in America, isn’t it? Welcome to the silly season.”
Yes I am agreeing with Mike Pence, a Republican here. Maher does have his anti-faith anti-religion agenda. His arrogance boarders ironically on “religious.”
But back to O’Donnell’s revelation. Let me ask you this haven’t you ever hung around people in high school who’s likes and interests were “dubious”? These are the people your mom told you to stay away from yet we hung out with them anyway. So what if the cost of your friendship was your soul? You can’t even see it anyway. I mean, whats a little blood on an altar and “stuff like that”? We dated all kinds of people back in those days and did we really know them?
Now O’Donnell is a candidate for the senate from Delaware. I’m sure that O’Donnell has grown out of her high school indiscretions and interesting friendships. Some of these Tea Party folks are so colorful and interesting and attractive and so not ready for prime time. Like the rest of the Republican Party, they have vast projects for “taking the country back” but are operating with half-vast ideas. But witches? Nah, I don’t think so, although I do wonder about Michele Bachmann sometimes.
and so it goes…
