On a CBS interview with President Obama recently, the Prez was asked about the tone of the discussion that crosses the airwaves these days. He said:

“Well, I think that when you listen to Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, it’s pretty apparent, and it’s troublesome, but keep in mind that there have been periods in American history where this kind of vitriol comes out,”…”It happens often when you’ve got an economy that is making people more anxious and people are feeling like there is a lot of change that needs to take place. But that’s not the vast majority of Americans. I think the vast majority of Americans know that we’re trying hard, that I want what’s best for the country.”

I know, why even mention these two? Free publicity. Not really needed. Maybe the president was trying to goose the liberals by finally taking on these poster children for hate and conspiracy. Besides I think there are a few moderate Republicans who might fall into the “enough of the crazy-talk” from these right-wing nutters. Just guessing. Why try and raise the profiles of Beck and Limbaugh the gang who brought you such hits as the “birthers” and “communist plots” and comparisons to Hitler? To call them by name says I know you’re there, I can hear you. Limbaugh responded to the idea of President Obama boosting his profile:

“How can I possibly be elevated as a voice of the opposition?”

“I’m already on the top of the mountain, and the regime put me there shortly after they took office.”

Limbeck

Premiere Radio Networks, Limbaugh’s national syndicator, estimated last year that 3.59 million people were in Limbaugh’s audience during an average quarter-hour of his program, based on a review of Arbitron’s piecemeal data about hundreds of stations. Who really knows what his ratings are. But let’s say 3.5 million people listen to him. That leaves approximately 303,000,00 who do not. And of that number, I wonder how many agree with him or just listen to his show to drive faster on the freeway or for pure entertainment. Personally, I think that the people who listen to Rush Limbaugh are really mad at their kids. You know, the kids who voted for Obama and who want health care for all. Well I hope Rush enjoys being on the top of the mountain, because those who reach mountaintops generally will spend their time fighting off those who want to replace them. It must be very frustrating to his ego when people of substance begin to claw their way into his large spotlight and call it like it is. Good Grief! Here I am filling up the space on today’s blog with ramblings about Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. They certainly don’t need me to boost their egos. Thanks to Obama the rattling of their respective cages gets them to say really stupid stuff…and it’s already started.

Remember the good old days when Fox and the White house had a love fest of access? A marriage of power and media made in heaven. All the Bush White House had to do was feed Fox talking points and bingo, it turned into news. I think they are still smarting from the politics of “no” being reflected right back at them.
